Strata exists for a simple reason: the people who would gain the most from a clear explanation of their money are often the least able to pay for one. This is a free, student-led volunteer effort built to close a little of that gap.
Good financial guidance has long been organized around people who already have money to manage. Most of it is sold as a service, which means the clearest explanations tend to reach the people who can most afford to pay for them. The result is a quiet kind of unfairness: help flows toward those who need it least.
At the same time, ordinary money decisions have not gotten any simpler. Choosing a repayment order, sizing a savings buffer, reading the fine print on a loan: none of it is beyond anyone, but most of us were never walked through it. The gap is rarely a shortage of information. It is the shortage of someone to make sense of that information with you, in plain language, with nothing to sell at the end.
Strata does not pretend to fix that gap at any scale. It is one person offering to sit on the same side of the table as you and work through the numbers, for free, for the people around them who have been left to figure it out alone.
A mission is only as good as the lines it refuses to cross. These are the ones that keep this effort worth doing.
Education that only reaches the people who can already pay for it is not really solving the problem. Free is not a promotion here. It is the whole point.
Jargon is usually a barrier, not a necessity. If an explanation cannot be put in words you actually use, it is not finished yet.
There is nothing to sell and no one to convert into a client. That keeps the guidance pointed at your situation and nowhere else.
Strata offers financial education and planning support, never licensed advice. When something needs a licensed professional, the honest move is to say so.
Strata is run by a high school student, on a volunteer basis. That is not a disclaimer to apologize for. It is the part that keeps the help free and keeps it honest.
